Tam Coc Garden · Is it worth it?

Tam Coc Garden Resort Review: Is It Worth It?

Yes, if you want a quiet garden in the rice fields and will use the bikes; no, if you want to walk to restaurants or swim in winter. Guests consistently rate the setting, the staff and the cleanliness highest, and the price of food and the distance from town lowest.

Strengths and weak spots

Stone bungalows with tiled roofs among bamboo beside a pond with a curved stone edge

Strength · Setting

A garden you can live in

The draw is the place itself: low stone bungalows in a large fruit and herb garden, surrounded by paddies. It has collected Tripadvisor awards since 2014, and guests single out the calm, the gardens and the staff.

Book it if you want to come back from the boats to a quiet garden. Skip it if you want nightlife or a big-resort feel.

Weak spot · Distance and price

Not in town, not cheap

Tam Coc town is 3.6 km away and the lane is unlit, so dinners out mean a bike before dark or a taxi. Food and crafts at the resort cost noticeably more than in town, and some sound carries between rooms.

Book it if you will eat in a couple of times and cycle the rest. Skip it if every evening out matters more than the garden.

Who will love it, and when to go

01

Couples and honeymooners

The Full Moon Villa with its own pool and the veranda chamber over the paddies are the rooms people remember.

02

Families who like the outdoors

The Family House has a kitchen and pool; the bikes, garden and ponds keep children busy.

03

Best months

Late May to early June for golden rice, September to November and February to April for mild weather.

Honest note

If you are visiting in December or January, the pool is cold and the days can be gray, and if you want restaurants on foot, a hotel in Tam Coc town will suit you better.

Questions people ask before booking Tam Coc Garden

Is Tam Coc Garden worth the price?

For most guests, yes: it is regularly rated among the best small hotels in Ninh Binh for setting and service. It is worth it if you use the garden, bikes and pool; less so if the plan is long day trips with the room used only for sleeping.

What do guests complain about most at Tam Coc Garden?

Food prices compared with town, the cold pool in winter, bikes without gears, sound between rooms, and the distance and dark lane to town. A few mention cockerels and loudspeaker announcements early in the morning.

Is Tam Coc Garden a 5-star resort?

Booking sites list it as 4-star, while one hotel database used by Tripadvisor rates it 5. We found no star rating from Vietnam’s tourism authority, so treat it as a boutique resort rather than a star category.

Is Tam Coc Garden better than staying in Tam Coc town?

For quiet, space and views, yes. For walking to restaurants, bars and the boat wharf, no — town hotels are a few minutes on foot from everything. Many travelers do one night in each.

Has Tam Coc Garden won awards?

Yes, mainly from Tripadvisor: Best of the Best and Travelers’ Choice awards from 2014 onward, including 2023 and 2024, and a place in its list of the world’s most photogenic hotels. VnExpress International also put it first among ten boutique hotels for a Tet getaway in 2023.

Does Tam Coc Garden suit older travelers?

Yes, if they are comfortable with garden paths and a step or two at the door; there is no elevator. Choose a single-story bungalow or chamber rather than the two-story Family House, whose toilets are all downstairs.
